Ramblings.

December 7 2007
Barry Bonds heads to Federal Court today to face charges
that he lied to a Grand Jury during the Balco steriod scandal.
The media will be there is hordes and the vigilante type reporting will be
unreal.
You have to wonder how hypocritical both the press and MLB really is. Think
about it, yesterday MLB handed down suspensions to Jose Guillen and Jay Gibbons
were suspended Thursday for the first 15 days of next season for violating
baseball's drug policy but players who have tested positive in the past have
also received big contracts. Givens signed one ealier in the day with the Kansas
City Royals, he has filed an appeal.
Had Bonds just admitted that he used during the investigation, fessed up to the
public and maybe shed a little tear; then this would have been over and all
forgiven a long time ago, just like with Jason Giambi.
Thomas F. Carlucci a liaison in the Mitchell investigation into steroid use has
to the teams in MLB that the final report may name names and the names are
significant. How are the clubs and MLB going to handle the situation? Will
players be suspended for something that everyone in baseball turned a blind eye
to for years? I can see if you tested positive last season, now or the future;
but baseball did not have a steroid policy 5 years ago so how can they suspend a
player now?
The Florida Marlins did it again, trading away the heart of their team Dontrelle
Willis and Miquel Cabrera to the Detriot Tigers this week, once again dumping
salary for prospects. MLB should have stepped in and blocked this trade. This
kind of thing is an embarrassment to baseball, the franchise and all of the 375
fans (including myself) who attend Marlins games. The ownership of this team is
a joke.
Believe it or not Dontrelle has not even been fitted for his uniform in Detriot
and there is rumors that he is on the trading block.
Now that LSU coach Les Miles has signed his contract we won't have to hear
anymore of is he staying or is he going as far as Michigan is concerned. I like
that fact that he called a press conference on Saturday calling out the big
gorilla ESPN saying that there was misinformation reported. Everyone wants to
get the jump on the story, how about just once let's wait and get it right.
Now more about Michigan. They have contacted Rutgers coach Greg Schiano to talk
about a jump to Big Blue. Schiano, who is a New Jersey native managed to the
almost impossible. He made Rutgers meaningful in football. You have to wonder if
he will stay or will go. You can bet that there is already contract extension
and raise talks going on with the Scarlet Knights right now.
Another college coach rumored to be moving on was Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe.
He rebuffed Arkansas attempt to hire him, replacing former coach Houston Nutt.
Grobe, who also pulled off a major task by making the Demon Deacons respectable
and winning an ACC title in 2006 said that he is staying at Wake Forest.
I believe that it will be hard for Arkansas to find a replacement for Nutt after
the way that he was treated there.
Besides it seems that the best way for a coach to get a raise is to say that he
is going to Arkansas.
Brett Farve was voted SI's Sportsman of the Year. I don't have any problems with
that but why not give it Tim Tebow.
Hey do you think that he will be able to lift the Heisman Trophy with one hand
broken?
Don't forget to vote on this week's "Fan Poll"
