C, Kel’el Ware, Miami Heat at New York Knicks, $5,100
Ware has started for the Heat for their last two games with Tyler Herro (toe) sidelined, and Ware has seized the opportunity, scoring 48.5 FPTS vs. the Nets and then 51 FPTS vs. the Celtics. While logging 28.9 minutes per game, Ware is handling a 17.7% usage rate, and he is shooting an impressive 70% from the field in these past two games.
Ware is leading Miami with 1.3 FPTS per minute this season, and with Herro remaining out Sunday, Ware should continue to start and see 25-30 minutes. The Knicks do rank 12th in defensive rating, but Ware is way underpriced for a starting role, and he will be one of the top values on the slate if confirmed starting again, which will bring outstanding upside relative to his cheap price tag.
PG/SG, Tre Johnson, Washington Wizards vs. San Antonio Spurs, $3,500
Playing their second game in two nights, the Wizards will be very shorthanded tonight. Alex Sarr (adductor), Khris Middleton (knee), Bilal Coulibaly (ankle), and Cam Whitmore (shoulder) all have been ruled out. Johnson may start in this situation, but even if he doesn’t, the efficient scoring rookie should approach 25 minutes and see a large usage rate.
With those four players off the floor this season, Johnson’s usage rises 2.3 percentage points to 23.2%, and he scores 0.8 FPTS per minute. Despite this tough matchup vs. the Spurs, who rank sixth in defensive rating this season, Johnson should produce at least 20 FPTS, and he is an excellent punt play at only $3,500.
