Katherine Legge has announced her return to NASCAR after a disastrous Phoenix Cup Series debut with Live Fast Motorsports in March. To briefly recap, Legge caused two risky incidents at the start and near the end of the Phoenix Shriners Children’s 500. The worst was during the latter half when she spun out and collected Daniel Suárez on lap 98, just 210 into the 312-lap race.
Both Legge and Suárez were then taken out of contention. Following the incident, Legge received harsh criticism from drivers Chase Elliott, Kyle Busch, Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, and Joey Logano. Even so, the Live Fast driver has plans to turn over a new leaf, adding 12 new races to her once-limited schedule. Will her attempt at redemption pay off this time?
About Katherine Legge’s Expanded Schedule
Katherine Legge, unsure if she would race again after a disastrous debut in Phoenix, is ready to get back behind the wheel. She is expected to run seven Xfinity Series races with Jordan Anderson Racing and five Cup races with Live Fast Motorsports. Legge will debut in the Xfinity Series at the historic Rockingham Speedway for the North Carolina Education 250.
Her first Cup Race since Phoenix will be at the Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway on August 16.At this point, she’s still carrying the stigma of the beef that ensued between her and Daniel Suárez post-race at the Shriners Children’s 500. Yet, if there’s one thing Katherine Legge does well, it’s standing up to adversity. Legge recently spoke to NBC Sports about her decision to return to NASCAR and mentioned she’s not giving up without a fight.
“I licked my wounds for sure, but I haven’t been around in motorsports for 20 years professionally by giving up on anything. I know Phoenix wasn’t my best work. I made a mistake, right? I made a lot of mistakes during the race, tried to minimize them,” Katherine Legge told NBC Sports of her Phoenix Run.
“And then there was that one mistake that obviously ended Daniel’s race and cost me my reputation, which I intend to get back. But it was a mistake,” she added.
