UFC star Conor McGregor has accepted an 18-month suspension for violating the promotion’s anti-doping policy, the Combat Sports Anti-Doping agency announced.
McGregor is ineligible after he missed three attempted biological sample collections within a 12-month period in 2024, according to a news release from UFC. He “failed to make himself available” when he missed tests on June 13, Sept. 19 and Sept. 20, 2024, which violates UFC’s anti-doping policy, per CSAD.
McGregor fully cooperated with CSAD’s investigation, accepted responsibility and provided information that CSAD said contributed to the missed tests. In turn, CSAD reduced the standard 24-month period of ineligibility for three missed tests to 18 months, according to the release.
His suspension began Sept. 20, 2024, and ends March 20, 2026, according to the release.
CSAD also noted that McGregor missed those tests while he was recovering from an injury and not while he was preparing for an upcoming fight.
“Despite these mitigating factors, CSAD emphasizes that accurate whereabouts filings and the ability to conduct unannounced testing are essential to the success of the UFC ADP,” the program said in the release.
On Monday, McGregor announced he was taking a hiatus from social media.
“Hey folks online, I’m out of here for a bit, see you again soon!,” he wrote in posts on X and Instagram. “My love, unwavering! Thank you all.”
McGregor, a former two-division champion, last fought in UFC in July 2021, when he lost his second consecutive match to Dustin Poirier. He holds a 22-6 career record, including 19 wins by knockout.
