Biloxi Shuckers beat Blue Wahoos, 8-2, in home opener

The Biloxi Shuckers celebrated their home opener in style Tuesday night at Keesler Federal Park, winning 8-2 over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

The Shuckers’ offense got going immediately, as Blake Burke launched a solo home run in the first inning. Burke has now homered in four consecutive games, becoming just the sixth Double-A player since 2005 to hit four home runs in four games and only the third to do so since 2011.

Biloxi extended its lead over the next two innings, scoring four runs. Mike Boeve came home on a wild pitch, Dasan Brown added an RBI single, and Damon Keith delivered a two-run double.

The Shuckers added more insurance in the sixth inning when Dylan O’Rae tripled home a run and Jesús Made, the top prospect in the Milwaukee Brewers organization, followed with an RBI single. Keith capped the scoring with his third RBI of the night on a groundout in the seventh that brough O’Rae home.

Keith finished 2-for-4 with a double. O’Rae also went 2-for-4 as every Shuckers player reached base at least once.

Right-hander Jaron DeBerry (1-0) led the way on the mound, tossing five shutout innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win. In relief, Anthony Flores threw a scoreless inning with a strikeout, and Mark Manfredi Sr. also kept Pensacola off the board. Jacob Miller (0-1) took the loss for the Blue Wahoos after allowing five runs over three innings.

The Shuckers (2-2) continue their six-game home series against Pensacola (0-4) on Wednesday at 6:35 p.m. Manuel Rodriguez is scheduled to start for Biloxi, while lex Williams will take the bump for Pensacola. Tickets can be purchased here.
