NASCAR star issues update on his team’s future

Brent Crews holds a trophy after a 2024 win at Road America

Teenage NASCAR star Brent Crews has admitted that he’s unsure about the future of his team.

That’s, of course not about Joe Gibbs Racing, whose No. 19 car he drives in the O’Reilly Series, but Brent Crews Motorsports, the Truck Series team he set up last year.

The team’s No. 70 truck has run just one race, with Crews himself at the wheel at Watkins Glen last year in a race that he finished 17th. No further races have been announced for the team, and the young driver admitted that he has no firm plans to revive it.

Crews admitted he’s currently focusing exclusively on his rookie season in the O’Reilly Series, which he’s finally able to run in full-time now he’s turned 18 and is allowed to race on all tracks.

Crews hopeful of Truck Series return

Asked about the team during his media availability before this weekend’s race at Rockingham, he admitted: “Your guess is as good as mine. It is sitting at the shop, just collecting dust.

“If me and my dad decide to take it back out again, and start polishing it up, I will let you all know beforehand, but as of now we don’t have any plans. Hopefully, I can run some Trucks at the end of the year with TRICON or in the No. 70, but I think right now the main focus is the No. 19 car.”

On his 18th birthday this week, which makes him eligible to drive all O’Reilly Series races, he revealed: “Me and some of buddies went to a Mexican restaurant at 7:15. The place was called Casa Azteca. All my friends went and my family. It was crazy.

“When it is your birthday, they have this big TV screen and it shows you and the whole group that you are with, and everyone was dancing. It was pretty cool. We all just hung out. It was a super chill birthday. It was great to have all of my family and my friends there.”
