The 2026 Texas Children’s Houston Open has taken a sudden hit. Just before the opening round, Aaron Rai officially withdrew from the tournament.
PGA TOUR Communications confirmed that the 31-year-old has withdrawn with a neck injury, marking a frustrating physical setback for a player who has consistently performed well at Memorial Park. In a corresponding move, Taylor Moore has been named as Rai’s replacement in the field.

Rai’s departure comes at a difficult juncture in his 2026 campaign. His recent form has been uncharacteristically shaky, including back-to-back missed cuts leading up to the open.
Rai entered the week ranked 108th in the FedExCup standings. While his iron play remains a strength—ranking T22 on Tour in Greens —his performance on the greens has been a major hurdle. According to the PGA Tour, Rai currently ranks 115th in Strokes Gained: Putting (-0.437) and 161st in Putts Per Round (30.00).

These metrics, combined with a 164th-place ranking in Driving Distance (285.7 yards), suggest he was already facing an uphill battle on the long Houston layout before the injury forced his exit.
The timing of the announcement is a blow to fans who considered Rai a “horse for the course” due to his previous T7 finishes in 2023 and 2024.
