If you’re playing in the Butterfield Bermuda Championship this week, well, we hope you’ve been working extra-hard on your knockdown shots.
The wind will definitely be a factor at Port Royal Golf Course in the penultimate event of the PGA Tour season. A BIG factor.
Take a look at this forecast for Thursday:
Rough. But that doesn’t even seem to do it justice. Instead, we present a video taken at the range on Tuesday by Justin Hastings, who filmed fellow tournament participant Tyler Watts hitting a wedge shot that literally comes back to the feet of another player. You have to see it to believe it:
“Just 90 yards of hurt,” Hastings captions. Wait, 90(!) yards?! So, what, that’s a NINE-club wind?! How do you even play in weather like that?!
“Gonna be a fun week,” Watts, an 18-year-old high school senior making his second PGA Tour start, responded.
Well, that’s certainly one way to look at it.
And, yet, somehow, the winning score will probably be 20-something under par. The lesson here as always? These guys are good. Really, really good.
