Aug. 1: Dodgers get Tarik Skubal as Tigers land prime prospects

Grade excerpt: “Let’s not belabor the Dodgers’ side of this: The reigning back-to-back World Series champs just acquired the reigning back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winner without parting with any of their top three prospects. Full stop.”

Dodgers: A+
Tigers: A

Aug. 1: White Sox add Luis Castillo as Mariners shed salary

Grade excerpt: “The White Sox need innings. Castillo will provide that. But they also need quality, given their position. Castillo has a 5.06 ERA and has served up seven homers in his past 17 innings.”

White Sox: D
Mariners: B+

Aug. 1: Braves acquire Lane Thomas, Bailey Falter from Royals

Grade excerpt: “Thomas can play all three outfield spots, which is helpful but not entirely necessary for the 2026 Braves. What’s far more crucial is that he has a 125 wRC+ against left-handed pitching this season — and a 133 wRC+ against lefties across his big-league career — while other Atlanta outfield options Mauricio Dubón, Mike Yastrzemski, Eli White and Jorge Mateo are all hitting lefties at a below league-average clip.”

Braves: B+
Royals: A-

Aug. 1: Yankees’ Camilo Doval heads to Pirates with hopes of a turnaround

Grade excerpt: “If Doval can throw more strikes, he could regain the form that made him an All-Star in 2023. Then again, if he could throw more strikes, he would probably not have been traded twice in 366 days.”

Pirates: B-
Yankees: B-

Andy McCullough

Aug. 1: Twins, Orioles both get what they need in Dean Kremer deal

Grade excerpt: “Baltimore’s growing number of near-ready starters in the minors was going to make Kremer superfluous soon enough, and Jhomnardo Reyes is the exact kind of lottery ticket you like picking up this time of year.”

Orioles: A-
Twins: B

Tim Britton

July 31: Twins add A.J. Minter as Mets begin sell-off

Grade excerpt: “Minter should help a Twins bullpen that entered play Thursday ranked 24th of 30 teams in fWAR from relievers. They do already have Kendry Rojas and Kody Funderburk pitching well from the left side, but relief help is relief help.”

Mets: B
Twins: B

McCullough

July 29: Rangers add Logan O’Hoppe, Chase Silseth from Angels at low cost

Grade excerpt: “What’s positive for the Angels is that they’re making moves. They’re starting the process to change the roster materially, and that is long past due.”

Angels: B+
Rangers: A-

 Blum

July 27: Red Sox trust in the breakout in trade for Curtis Mead

Grade excerpt: “Early has shown flashes of No. 2-3 starter stuff, but his underlying metrics look more like a 4-5. That’s still a good get for the Nats, but Mead is a versatile, high-upside big swing for the Red Sox, who are betting his breakout season is more than a flash in the pan.”

Editor’s note: Mead fractured his wrist in his first game with the Red Sox. He could miss the rest of the season.

Nationals: B
Red Sox: A-
