After the first two games of their Major League Baseball Wild Card matchup, the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves find themselves knotted at one game apiece in their best-of-three series, setting up an epic Game 3 tonight (Thursday, Oct. 1).
Tonight’s game is the literal definition of “win or go home” — the Braves took Game 1 on September 29, winning 5-3 thanks to a clutch 3-run, 8th-inning home run to right field by third baseman Austin Riley. One day later, the Phils tied the series with a wild 4-3 come-from-behind, extra-inning victory of their own — courtesy of a homer by infielder Alec Bohn — to set up a pivotal Game 3 that has all the makings of an instant classic.
In a September 30 post-game conversation with MLB.com, Bohm spoke about his team’s mindset ahead of tonight’s must-win game.
“Just win a game,” he told the outlet. ” … I think as much as we want to enjoy this for a little bit, it’s the same as we did [after Game 1]: Turn the page, and move on to tomorrow and show up ready to do the same thing.”
