A recap of the Brewers 2026 MLB Draft picks

Trey Ebel

MILWAUKEE — While the Brewers are off for the All-Star break, the team’s scouting staff was hard at work over the weekend for the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft.

The Brewers have been outstanding at drafting and development in recent years. So, it’s no surprise they’ve excelled at the major league level. They’re in position to win their fourth straight National League Central Division title.

In this year’s draft, the Brewers went heavy on pitching. 13 of their 20 picks are full-time pitchers.

“Trying to collect a bunch of interesting pitchers to develop,” said Brewers Vice President of Amateur Acquisition Tod Johnson. “It’s resulted in some pretty good outcomes for us.”

The Brewers first round draft pick (and 25th overall) was shortstop Trey Ebel from Corona High School in California. He comes from a great baseball family. His dad is the Dodgers third base coach and Trey’s brother Brady was a late first-round pick by the Brewers last year.

“I know he’s there (Class A Wilson) doing his own thing, but I’m controlling what I can control,” said Trey Ebel. “I’m starting my professional career. In my mind, I want to catch up to him and be better than him. That’s just the brotherly love that I have for him.”

Ebel worked out with another Corona native—Brewers second baseman Brice Turang.

“Went hard for four and a half months straight, five times a week,” said Ebel. “Just learning from a guy like that, who’s turning himself into a superstar. He would take me out to lunch, and we would just talk nothing but baseball for three, four hours.”

“Yeah, I’m happy for him,” said Turang. “He’s worked really hard to be where he’s at. I remember those days. It’s exciting.”

The Brewers are known for digging deep before the draft. This is an organization that drafted Jacob Misiorowski in the second round. Some other teams didn’t even know some of the Brewers’ picks over the weekend.

“That’s always good,” said Johnson. “I think it shows that we’re doing work. Our scouts are getting after it and digging up guys that others aren’t necessarily knowing about it.”

Among the Brewers’ other picks, they took Wilmot High School’s Chance Ruby in the 17th round and CC Sabathia’s son, Carsten, out of the University of Houston, in the 20th round.
