CONCORD, N.C. (WBTV) – A public celebration of life honoring late NASCAR champion Kyle Busch will be held at Charlotte Motor Speedway later this year.
NASCAR said the event was scheduled for Friday, Oct. 9, following the Truck Series race.
Busch — the 2015 and 2019 Cup Series champion — died suddenly on May 21 after pneumonia led to sepsis. He was 41 years old. His death came just days before the Coca-Cola 600 was held at the same track where his life will be celebrated.
NASCAR said in its announcement that the service will be free and open to the public, with a list of speakers to be announced later.
A surefire future Hall of Famer, nobody won more races across NASCAR’s top three series than Busch. His last of those 234 checkered flags came on May 15 — just six days before his death — in the Truck Series race at Dover Motor Speedway.
Busch won 63 races in NASCAR’s elite Cup Series, which ranks 10th all time.
He is survived by his wife Samantha, 11-year-old son Brexton, and 4-year-old daughter Lennix.
