French football legend Zinedine Zidane has fans going crazy after news broke that he has agreed to join the France national team as head coach. Sports newspaper L’Équipe reported that the 1998 Fifa World Cup winner will officially take the reins on September 1, with others reporting that his contract with Les Bleus runs till mid-2030.
While Zizou is about to become France’s new coach, his son Luca Zidane, in contrast, stepped away from French football last September to join Algeria. He represented the North African nation at this World Cup, serving as the team’s starting goalkeeper despite a recent chin and jaw injury.

When did Luca Zidane make his debut?
Luca made his professional debut in 2018 for Real Madrid, which was coached by his father at the time. He joined the Spanish giants through its youth academy and made two La Liga appearances as a goalkeeper before leaving in 2020, and signing a two-year contract with Rayo Vallecano. He was also loaned out to Racing de Santander during his last season at Real Madrid.
He then played for SD Eibar, a second-tier Spanish football team, for two years between 2022 and 2024, before joining his current club, Granada CF, which also plays in La Liga 2.
